How It Works

Enter each ingredient in your cocktail recipe with its volume and ABV% (0% for mixers, juices, etc.). The calculator determines the total volume, total alcohol content, overall ABV of the drink, and how many standard drinks the cocktail equals. You can then scale the recipe to make batches for any number of servings. The ABV calculation accounts for dilution from non-alcoholic ingredients and ice (approximately 25% dilution from shaking/stirring with ice).

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate the ABV of a cocktail?

Sum the alcohol from each ingredient (volume ร— ABV%), then divide by the total volume of all ingredients. For example: 2 oz of 40% vodka (0.8 oz alcohol) + 4 oz of mixer (0 oz alcohol) = 0.8 / 6 = 13.3% ABV before dilution.

How much does ice dilute a cocktail?

Shaking with ice typically dilutes a cocktail by 25-30% (adding about 1-1.5 oz of water). Stirring dilutes by about 15-20%. This dilution is actually important for proper balance and is factored into most cocktail recipes.

How do I scale a cocktail for a batch?

Multiply each ingredient by the number of servings. For a party punch, scale up directly. Note: you may need to reduce citrus and sweeteners slightly (by 10-15%) in large batches as flavors intensify. Don't add ice to the batch โ€” serve over ice instead.
